RAID data nightmares
Posted by Administrator in media on March 29, 2010
Under no circumstances should you ever allow an unqualified person attempt a RAID rebuild; the commonest scenario of total, permanent data loss we see with RAID storage devices is caused by the IT Admin or user trying to rebuild or recover the array following a failure.
We have had numerous occasions where even experienced IT / System Administrators have caused permanent data loss following what is often a fairly simple failure of a RAID storage device.
One recent client had a RAID 1 array. One of the drives was marked “bad” by the controller. The IT Admin replaced what he believed to be the faulty drive with a new one. Unfortunately, he then proceeded to rebuild the array using the “data” from the new drive, which was blank. The consequences were total data loss. To make matters worse, the IT Admin had run a low-level disk check utility on the failed disk (which destructively tested each sector) and hence destroyed any chance of data recovery whatsoever.

Retrodata are now offering a full Windows server rebuild. Failed server is recovered and rebuilt with all configuration settings intact – even Active Directory.
New proprietary RAID recovery system
Posted by Administrator in media on March 8, 2010
We have completed the development of our RAID Data Recovery System. This enables us to identify all operating system, file system, volume, and RAID parameters, giving us the ability to recover from logically-failed RAID arrays more quickly than any other data recovery company.
Even if your RAID storage device has been to other companies who have declared the data unrecoverable, we invite you to let us diagnose it. There are no diagnosis fees.

Seagate hard drive reliability upgraded 25.02.10 from Downright Ugly to Ugly. We’re seeing reduced numbers of these drives in for recovery.
